Students, we need you! As you settle in for a new semester on campus, spend some time building a stronger DC community–you’ll make new friends, learn more about DC, and help seniors in need.
As older adults in DC age, large numbers of low and moderate income older adults find the daily physical and financial demands required to stay in their homes more and more challenging. Age-In-Place provides basic home maintenance services (house cleaning and yard work) at absolutely no cost to DC older adults in wards 4 and 5. As a program, we provide support to ensure older adults are able to age safely and happily at home. The services we provide are accomplished only through our amazing volunteers. Volunteers serve for a few hours, making sure yards are manicured and houses are safe. On top of the physical work provided, we also form friendships with those we serve. Age-In-Place is a holistic service, ensuring both physical tasks are accomplished and emotional support is given. We all have much to learn from our elders, and older adults, in turn, have much to gain from social interactions with volunteers.
We would love to share more about our mission as a program and connect with you about how to get involved. If you or your student group are interested in volunteering with Seabury’s Age-In-Place, contact Brett Schaffer (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sarah Dolejs (email@example.com).
